Right-handed Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki has had a hard time finding his groove in L.A with his first two starts falling short. The 23-year-old rookie left Saturdays game between the Detroit Tigers after just over 1 1/2 innings giving up three hits and two earned runs allowed plus four walks. He threw 61 pitches with 32 strikes before exiting the game but there were also some impressive throws seen.
Sasaki missed the strike zone by over a foot on his first two fast balls and gave up two runs in the first inning. In the second inning he walked two more before he was pulled with two men on and two outs.
After exiting the game Roki was visibly emotional about the performance as he stood in the dugout, but the Dodgers pulled off a 7-3 win against the Tigers. Teoscar Hernandez had RBI double in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tied game. Will Smith and Tommy Edman Homered later in the game while six relievers struck out nine with only one run allowed in more than 7 innings.
Fans are asking if the Dodgers should be concerned about Roki Sasaki, but it appears to be the young pitchers' own nerves getting in his way. He is expected to improve over time as he gets comfortable with his new team and coaching staff, and it is far too early to worry about him yet. The Dodgers remain undefeated at 5-0.
